Hey my learned brethren.

Been thinking about a wireless set up for my rig.
Nothing too pricey but reliable and not tone sucky.
I usually use LP and Tele style guitars into vintage NMV Marshall amp.

Any advice, suggestions and recommendations appreciated.

If Sennheiser fell into budget, their stuff is exceptional.
I’ve ended up with the Line6 G90 unit. Tone wise, no change, and you can fiddle about with the cable toan knob to dial a bit more treble back in if you want. Lots of channels, decent range, and very hardy. Mine has careered off the guitar strap onto concrete countless times, with no damage and conveniently still making noise.

Battery life is fantastic.

Downsides, the cable is complete rubbish. I replaced mine with a Shure, and there’s plently of custom options available. The Shure is great though.

I initially had problems with batteries being ever so slightly small for the enclosure. I do move around a bit so they get a jiggling. I’ve had no problems with Duracell and Energizer Lithium fitting.

Finally, and this was the biggest hurdle for me, it is a Line6 product, so you do have to deal with that. I keep mine hidden, but as the great Ears once said YMMV.

Any thoughts on those?

I had the boss one which would have been great off my wifi router didn’t drown it out, not a fan of 2.4 GHz for home use, fine for gigging, I went mildly illegal UHF and haven’t looked back

I have the Line6 G10 and it works great at home & jamming with the band but I haven't gigged with it. I have the original version with the larger base unit, the G10s and equivalent Boss version now have a pedal shaped base which seems more convenient.

They transmitter part does stick out a bit, in a strat it's fine but with your Tele or Les Paul you might need a 90 degree adapter to get it sitting closer to the body, but it hasn't worried me.

I used to use the line 6 G30 and it was great. Moved to a Shure
GLX as it is more robust. I tend to jump around a bit playing live.

I think the plug straight in units have a disadvantage from a durability perspective, and battery life must also be shorter given the small size.

In your circumstance, I wouldn’t think twice about the line6 stuff. Great value for money and negligible tone suck.

Also note that the plug in ones don’t fit all guitars. I have a boss one for around home (because I kept running over the cable in my music room chair) and it doesn’t fit my Silver Sky and one of my Strandbergs (the unit jams in the jack enclosure) and also doesn’t work with guitars that have TRS jacks eg: my EBMM JP (piezo), variax etc

If you know me you’ll know I hardly move on stage so that’s not too big a concern.
I also don’t have a worry about jack positions. (Ooh err. IB:JB)

I gig sporadically but we’re doing a one off show (aren’t they all?) in June and it involves more than the usual guitar changes. I’m getting older and blinder and don’t want to faff too much with reaching the floor for cables.
Also not really keen to spend tooooooo much.

Anyone got much experience with things like G10 or similar in live situations?

The latest $200 Bluetooth are magic. I can't notice difference in tone from leads, even on bass guitar. The do a 3 hour gig when fully charged. Mine are 2 years old and still good.

Works great, range is further than you’ll need, never had a battery problem, plenty of 4+ hr gigs / practice sessions.

A few people have commented on it size and knockability, but has never been an issue for me.

An important point to note on this (which I learnt the hard way).

You need to provide your own power supply. I have a TRex unit that does isolated 9v at about 120mA or something like that. I had random problems until I read the manual and it says needs something like 300mA. That caught me off guard as that’s quite a whack of power for pedal units.

I have tried both the boss and line 6 units - plug in as well as the body pack type designs. Haven't had any issues with any of them in terms of tone, however as has been mentioned already, the line 6 body pack only works with certain types of batteries. Energizer's work for me.

I have a spare Line 6 unit if that is of any interest.

I use the Sennheiser G4, which is pretty fabulous.
