Recent NGD - Gibson 25/50 LP

Post by Green Bastard »

Visited Japan a few weeks back and had to bring back a souvenir. Eventually decided to spend much more than initially planned by getting something super cool (in my opinion) rather than just another guitar
Found that ishibashi online prices are 20% above what you can get in store if you take your passport for tax free.
Narrowed it down to some vintage Les Paul, but this one jumped out a bit more than a black custom which was also in the running.
It's a 1979 Gibson Les Paul 25/50 anniversary, non original pickups and some obvious wear, but overall condition is good. Frets are super low compared to what I'm used to, but think that is just what it came with more so than being worn down. Quite heavy, but was lighter than I expected when I grabbed it off the wall, think it's a bit less than my sg2000.
If it was mint id be scared to play it, so don't mind it being a bit rough around the edges. Been super busy and then crook since I got back so haven't had a chance to play through a cranked amp yet, so looking forward to that still.

Yeah tobacco burst, but possibly a darker brown than normal. My photos probably don't do it justice.

Had discussed that otpion, but it would take a bit of lube and 10hour flight may be a little too long.

The store had plenty of experience packaging to ship overseas, so the dude padded out the case, chucked in a box, even added a little handle with packing tape for me to carry. Then just checked luggage, hoped for the best. Declared on way in (don't recall the box on declaration regarding $700+ of purchases), got sent to side of customs thinking I'll be paying, they asked if it was for me, I said yeah and just got waved through.

Missing the ashtray cover, but think the rest may be original (I'm no expert).
The massive cavity is to fit the mini coil split switch, think I saw it has the same route as "the paul" from around the same time, but lazy not being bothered to make different size back plates

Yeah nice 5 piece flame maple, but don't really see the back that often. Fortunately I think the front looks pretty decent as well.
