What's this guitar worth? Epiphone Tony Iommi

Post by Zaulkin »

Hey folks,

Can't remember if I asked already  One of my friends asked me to get an opinion on how much his guitar is worth - any guesses? It's an Epiphone Tony Iommi with a CNB hardcase and a strap. Off the top of my head I was thinking around a grand, maybe more? There was a second hand one on Reverb for $1650NZD not including shipping so it's put my guess out a bit.

Thanks in advance!

There seems to be a different Tony Iommi one at the RS for around 2k, so maybe with a hard case it's worth more like 1200 - 1400?

I realise it may be a hard one to sell though.

That's the discontinued model. The current one has the binding, inlays all up the neck, and probably some other stuff I'm not wise to.

I wouldn't go too low, I think there's strong resale value here and anyone who got it for a grand would be getting a bargain. Pretty sure it has the Gibson Iommi humbuckers in it which sounded great when I played one in the RS many moons ago. I think last time you asked I mentioned a Zakk Wylde buzzsaw that went for an $1800 buy now not that long ago, and I put this in a reasonably similar vein, although SGs seem to command slightly less than LPs. Either way I've gassed for one for ages, so I should have told you that they're worthless and I'd take it off his hands and he wouldn't even have to pay me to take it away. ;)

BUY IT HAMO!!!!!!!!!
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Is that Dave’s?
I’ve played it, and it’s pretty decent instrument, although that was some years ago.

If only! But we're having our own little cost of living crisis here in casa del Hamo. WOF coming up where I know there will be new tyres needed, just not sure how many, and I got a nice letter from teh IRD reminding me I owe then $120. This always seems to happen when I change jobs, which I did in the last tax year.

Someone should grab at least one of these though. 8)

I had a flatmate with one of these, it was his teenage guitar, I remember he sold it for around 800, about 10-12 years back.

I never really liked the halfass inlays, but it had the gibson pickups like the fancy models. They sounded pretty nice, and Gibson have discontinued them now.

Edit: Here's someone wanting 550nzd for one pickup, lol

There's a Swedish band called Tribulation, one of the guitarists used to play mainly the Gibson LPC but in their recent music videos and live performances he has been playing that exact Epiphone Tony Iommi. Great band by the way worth the listen.
