You get one made
Or you find a 6g6 clone in production
Or you remortgaged and find an original 6g6

You know what? No one has said a 1936 Gibson Charlie Christian pickup into a 1937 Epiphone Electar amp is a bad sound.
I'm going o try to chase that one down. Maybe put the pickup in a tele.
Probably go broke.

Re: Guitar food groups and must try guitar sounds
Two of my Three Strats are Lace equipped and all of my guitars and basses have flatwound strings. I live on my neck pickups and I know its weird, but I have never been happy playing anything using the bridge pup. I guess I don't fit with trebly tones. Gimme the smooth. Caveat - I don't use effects, just straight into the amp.

This is why I HSS'd my strat, now the bridge is super usable!Rog wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2024 9:38 am Two of my Three Strats are Lace equipped and all of my guitars and basses have flatwound strings. Re: Guitar food groups and must try guitar sounds
Been thinking about this thread lately. Thinking ahead, but I still want to try some gold foil pickups.
From YouTube clips they seem to have a revealing piezo-blend like sound. I'm not sure if that's my thing or not.
Does anyone have any genuine / lollar soapbar goldfoils kicking around? Or perhaps some humbucker sized ones?

Search function can't find any mention in this thread so I'm going to be wildly different and say I love Danelectros and lipsticks.
The stock ones aren't great but when I got the SD ones. Geez, they have a lovely dark single coil tone, like dark chocolate. I really enjoy them. Danos themselves the proper masonite ones also have an interesting semi-acoustic quality to them too.

Not sure about Filtertrons. They sound a bit too mellow, Or should I just change my strings?

I haven't explored those properly. A friend of mine had a Danelectro at school, but back then I didn't like anything that wasn't ready for liquid gain.Vince wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2024 2:47 pm Search function can't find any mention in this thread so I'm going to be wildly different and say I love Danelectros and lipsticks.

Re: Guitar food groups and must try guitar sounds
I tried some goldfoil pickups today - yay! Here are my thoughts.
It was a pretty brief 20 minute play. I would describe it like playing a p90 guitar but with less power under the hood. I think have played certain strats that have a similar quality of sound. I could see it being quite good for rhythm in a band with more than one guitarist, because it's characteristics were less pronounced than a strat/tele. I think if I was recording a lot of classic rock / punk rock etc, I'd love a guitar with these for layering. Apparently they are amazing with fuzz - which I don't use all that often and didn't get to try this time. I also think I'd have a lot of fun with some warbly effects added.
For now I think I will be able to get by, but if a set of lollar soapbar gold foils shows up, I'd consider exploring them further.
