Just watch out for the grey ones with 'Anniversary' printed on the body. Horrible objects. The only good things I've heard said about them were from owners desperate to find a buyer.

Ah, see all that goopy finish damage along the upper bout? Mine had that also... I've never had that problem with any other guitar. HAving said that, I did gig with it a lot, so maybe it is unfair to pick on it for that.
Like other have said above, I also really like the bigger headstock.
Oh boy, this is not sounding particularly positive. The good news is the bridge and tuning pegs are not original anyway, so those issues are easy fixed.
My main concerns are the weight and the neck joint. It is well played, which I see as a good sign.

There was a lefty 70 something on TM not too long ago that offered for $2k. The guy had it listed for about a year and I guess someone was interested enough to take the punt. It was a sunburst one and didn't look too bad.

Not a Strat but this is currently on Vintage guitars and gear NZ on FB. They're a bit of a cool kid indie guitar and they apparently sell at about 4K USD so this could be some pretty sharp buying.
1935 Martin D-45, 1942 Gibson Southern Jumbo,1950 Fender Broadcaster, 1954 Fender Strat, 1958 Gibson Moderne prototype, 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard.
1958 Fender twin, 1965 Vox AC30, 1966 Marshall JTM 45, 1977 Dumble OD Special.
Big black garbage bag full of original Klon Centaurs and TS808s.

The actual sale price history puts them a fair bit lower. 2.5-4k NZD

I have a couple. Aesthetically they're both nicely aged with a lovely amber on the natural finish 79 and yellow, faded white on the 72.
I can't argue with most of the preceding criticisms, but have come to recognize that all guitars have their own thing. If you like it the flaws don't matter. And they're inconsistent as opposed to universally bad.
Have a listen to Ainsley Lister on TPS as he cycles through his CBS Strats. In his hands they sound great.
Lastly, think about Brian May's Red Special and all the axioms that could be used to slate it. I'm really not sure the rules are as hard and fast as we believe. PRS think they have it down to a science but I'd rather beat the crap out of a simple Telecaster.

Every guitar is unique. I’ve got a 76 strat I bought through Grant. Had it re-fretted by Ramsay. Plays wicked. Sounds wicked (the pickups are very aggressive). Weighs a shitload.
Yep, that was the one I mentioned earlier. Great guitar that one.
