Heck even my Bogner had JJ branded 6V6S power tubes! They've been great so far.
Mmm, Bogner goodness. The Gibbys sounded awesome through it.

Cheers guys. I couldn't believe how good it sounded with the Fane loaded HIWATT 4x12" cab.

I'm taking a serious look at my speaker options now, Boogie 4x12" (vintage 30s) will most likely be on the chopping block. I need some Greenbacks or something lower wattage. I'm going to try the 8ohm -> 16 ohm amp/cab mismatch tomorrow to see if I can get what I'm after.

Good call, V30s and a big recto cab are best matched with modern hi gain tone in my experience. Greenbacks would kill with that old school Marshall tone your Bogner head does.

The tremolux clone is running a 20W UK-made greenback (Ryan has them). The amp puts out about 18W clean, and with a hotcake or booster in front, it pushes the speaker really hard (which gets that papery greenback snarl). So although they are rated at 20W they really can handle a bit more than that. However they don't like too much bass in the signal. JM2CW

From the good Doctor himself:
ALL the PT I designed and use in my amps have 3 AMP Rectifier Filament taps from the 5001 in the Ghia to 9001 in the Delta 88.

So a 5U4 can be safely used in any Z-Amp.

As I say, it's a reliability thing. I'm getting my info purely from the net here, but most people seem to feel that the modern rectifier tubes are far less reliable than the NOS ones. I think the one that's in there now is a JJ.

Actually, we could have tested that theory. Oh well.

Well if you want to try a Sovtek 5U4G, let me know

I can't comment as I've never lost a rectifier tube yet, and they're either JJ or Mesa.... I should really get spares.

ANYWAY... I really really liked that Crafter ABG.

I'd love to get it but I can't justify the expense. So I was thinking:

I have this Breedlove 5 string ABG that I never use. I've never got the action right, and it feedbacks like someone that has sex with their mother. Other than that it's like new and has a great sound.

Should I sell it and buy the Crafter? It seems silly to sell something that has all that potential (the 5th string) to buy another 4 string?

Or should I have one last go at getting the 5 string set up so I finally like it? And maybe save up for a parametric EQ?

What would you guys do? Say you had a 7 string guitar...

Ohhh... that's right. I remember your comments on 5 string basses, ages ago. I suppose it carries over to 7 strings. Well, ok. Bad example.
