Stormbringer wrote:24th is it? Afterwards we could all head out for some boozing. How about Shadows Bar, the one at Auckland Uni? Close at hand, cheap jugs, there might even be some good music on the stage! I'd say it'll really get kickin' about 9pm. On the dot.
Anyway, that little aside... aside, what time is the gearfest? Scanned through the pages and saw no time-oriented numbers.
Capt. Black wrote:Hey yeah, I've blocked out Labour Weekend Saturday for gearfest. Unless BG has other ideas you can pretty much call it officially on.
The usual thing. Doors open at midday. Runs through to 6-ish or until I get tired of Fler.
Weather permitting BBQ out front.
BYO beer and gear.
One room set up with kit for jams.
One, maybe two rooms set for showing gear off and demos. Vendor types please let me know if you're planning to escape the family and come to the 'Fest. We'll set up a room for vendoring and one for members gear porn.
Amp makers please BYO speakers.
And now there's a great gig to go to at Shadows which is awesome as that gives me a fair excuse to kick you all out at a reasonable time....

I few of us went to Shadows after exams last tuesday. Damn quiz night. This was far worse than your usual quiz night, because the guy asking the questions was really insulting and abusive, trying to be really non-pc. He thought he was funny of something. Drunk my coke and left. Havn't seen a band there before, but the room does not seem to have good acoustics. PA sounded bad even for quiz night.
My preference is to avoid shadows like the plague. I think I've only been convinced to actually go up there twice thus far...if I remember correctly free beer was involved on both occasions.
Shadows is all right. My one objection to playing there is the hassle involved in load-in/out. I'll come along to coug on all the young uni boys Oh and to see Stormbringer play
Capt. Black wrote:Way to go guys. Nice show of support for your forum mate who just invited you to go see him and his band play.
Invite..? Man that was so subtle. I had to go and re-read the last page of the thread a couple of times.
"Vince, have you ever tried playing an expensive bass?" - Polarbear.
"And isn't that the finest acoustic bass guitar feedback solo you've ever heard?" - Billy Moose.
I remembered playing at shadows a few times and one of our best sound happened there and it's Mitchell from Rockfactory did the sound for us. Love that night! and been back a few others times with various results but having an engineer that knows a bit what you sound like helps greatly!
Anyway, seems churlish to lay into the venue like that. The suggestion was to have a beer and see a band. Not to play or anything that requires any effort. Just decline gracefully... or not. I suppose that requires effort.

That would be Mark. A bit of a quim, but at least you know where you stand with him. Bomber does karaoke on Wednesdays, and he's just a wanker. Pretends to be all good and then ignores you. Mucks around, like everyone's beneath him. Mark's actually alright when he's at the bar and not running something
Sorry about the self-promotion, I was being sneaky and joking. Now a big deal has been made of it I'm shaking in my boots.

Lol like Aquila Rosso? He was looking for some crumpet if I remember correctly.

What the hell kinda student are you?!
Um...a music student...ironically... I dunno eh, I've never been keen on the place to be honest. I don't really drink while I'm on campus and I'm not the biggest fan of being around lots of drunk people I don't really know, especially drunk students I don't know.

Perhaps Kristie can follow up the bunny suit by wearing a penis suit on stage...
