Re: Next Auckland gearfest
Thanks Bobiron!
It was a shame that Kelvin and Steve (the two other builders) couldn't be there yesterday with Jason and I to hear the amp unveiled as it was. The smile on Jason's face was worth coming along for alone!
Other highlights for me included the guitar made by a young guy that was there. I didn't get his name but it was a fine piece of work. If you are a forum member can you please tell us who you are and what you are doing with your guitars? Kev77's Fender Jazz Bass was beautiful and he is pretty handy on the drums too. Bobiron's G&L ash and maple tele was also beautiful. I had a strum on that.
More later, gotta go now.

Re: Next Auckland gearfest
That was one of the best yet. Thank you to all who turned up and made it a such success.
BG and I were surprised by the size of the turn out. We coulda done with twice as many sausages for the BBQ.
There was so much stuff on display there was no room left for me to wheel out my twin Marshall stacks of doom.
If we get another turn out like that I'll have to look at letting Gearfest take over the whole place.
Special thanks to nzsimon1 for representing Jansen and offering some great deals on a range of items. These deals are still available through the Manor so please contact me if you're keen on anything. I'll post a list of the stuff in another thread a bit later today.
Yay for Ash, Ryan and CD. Always there with tasty gear morsels for us to drool over.
Congrats to Rob and Danger Mouse. After demo-ing THE AMP, a lot of guys came looking for a box of tissues.
Welcome to Kev77s pedal building mate whose name escapes me. Some great looking stuff. Oh yeah, can't forget his mate's mate who did the great pedal box art work.
Great to see some truly unique guitars too. Rob's Thorn was a show-stopper. Darkness trotted out his stunning flame grilled Ash for us to add some buckle rash to. Unfinished's hand-made weatherboard thinline telecaster was my pick for nicest looking guitar of the day. Beautiful work.
I'm sure I'm forgetting some people but I took some pics for once which I'll post shortly.

Re: Next Auckland gearfest
had fun the half an hour or so i was there!
cool to see some familiar faces and an awesome bunch of gear around! kev77's bass was lustful. and there were a whole bunch of G&L's that looks pretty rad too. im just a lil biased on those!
didnt manage to get time to try out the markbass rig nzsimon brought in. maybe some time, when i get closer to start saving up.
the two guys with kev77 were vivek and duncan.
i met the young fella a week or two back (the one who does his own guitars) if i stumble upon his handle here i would recognize it. but i cant recall atm.
hope to make the next one for a lil bit longer! too bad i only went into work at 1. if not, i could have left work earlier =)

Re: Next Auckland gearfest
That was really good fun, well stoked I remembered it was on as I passed through town.
Mucho appreciation to all who let me noodle away on their equipment, Phil's VHT/Brian Moore rig sounded absolutely phenomenal. The little rig with the epic pedalboard running into the open amp chassis/mesa 2x12 was pretty interesting, whoever it was that I had a bit of a jam with in there, that was great, thanks guys!
I thought that homebuilt halfstack was the throatiest and gruntiest amplifier i'd heard in a long time, reminds me of the forceful sound the Diezel VH4 has except considerably more raw and raunchy.
Looking forward to the next one, perhaps a big Sunday gathering is in order in December?

Re: Next Auckland gearfest
Great to make it to another gearfest in Akld, and good to see a big turnout.
6 hours seemed to be not enough time again, so apologies if i only got 1/2 a conversation with you, or
no conversation at all... (BTW sorry Kristie, i didn't recognise you with long hair! )
Thanks to Ryan and Simon for bringing amps down, and Kev77, please ask your pedal building mate how much those 'Vindaloo Vibe' pedals will be
Also, BG did a stirling job on lead vocals with the Midnight Blues Band at the Dogs Bollix... and yes, i managed to butcher a few songs as well

Re: Next Auckland gearfest
I had a real good time, great to hear some cool players and shoot the shit with a bunch of youse fullas. It was a shame to have to head off to soundcheck. Faves for me were Warren's lovepedal vibe, Glyn's VH2 pickups, that sophisticated sounding Ash with the rio grandes, the crazy-awesome homebrew pedals and hearing the shiva El34 with greenbacks. Props to all the homebuilders giving it a crack, there's a very cool community on the burgeon...
