The way it rings out just strung for fun is probably why - the whole thing vibrates and it's loud acoustically. The wear areas really show how it was played too. The chap had the perfect party strum up by the 14th fret, and his fingernails wore off the edge of the fingerboard and actual guitar body. He obviously loved that guitar.
Forgot to mention, it's a rare, rear seam body too.

If so, how do they compare to the ZhangPAF clones ?
YEah, sorry Ben...I posted a photo and then realised I had no new ones....bugguer!
cd - the PAF's are now in my R7 and yes, did an A/B with them last night with the Zhang's. Although different LP's to test them, the Zhangs capture a lot of the vibe of the PAF's. Clarity, compression, bite. Maybe not quite as scooped sounding. But plenty of complexity and top end (with a hint of cherry) as you'd expect. I'd say they're a 85%-90% PAF sound. Close enough.

Hmm thats interesting comparisons there. Keep us inform if you come across any Pups that captures the tone of those PAFs exactly or very nearly.

relaxing back at the hotel in Auckland...yep...the lacquer work is done thanks to Ash and his amazing talent.
I wanted to show this rear shot because a) the neck is just brilliant (see above) and 2) the depth and the odd birds eye in the maple is beautiful. Yes, I said beautiful.

Really? I didn't think I used that much. There was an epic shellac cloggage episode that needed dissolving, though. I used methanol for most of the cleanout operaions and test sprays.
