Very nice old hofner 12 fret
Story behind this is that a lady brought it into our shop along with an old 1930's epiphone arch top. The epi had unfortunately had the neck replaced and had been repainted with what looked like grey house paint, but this little hofner seemed to be all original. It needed some work, and I cut a new bone saddle for it and set it up as best as I could.
I know these old hofners aren't particularly valuable, but man this thing is the business tonally. It just nails that old swampy blues sound, so good for open tuning. Has that great old boxy metallic sound.
Myself and Andrew London really wanted to keep it. I even found something similar on trade me and bought it for a hundred and fifty bucks, but it wasn't anywhere near as good. Andrew bought that one off me. Don't know if he's still got it.
This lady didn't come back for months. We kept leaving messages to remind her about them. We thought maybe she had abandoned her guitars, but they were apparently owned by her late father. Another guy I work with wanted it too, so he actually took it home after it had been sitting here many months, and then of course she came back and we didn't have it! Oops. So now it's back here waiting for her again and the other guy and me are really tempted to ask her if she would consider selling it. We don't really know what it's worth though. It's one of those things where even though you know it's probably only worth a couple of hand shandy you're willing to pay more because you know the chances of finding another just like it are rare.
Check out the flame on the back. Laminated back though, no flame on the inside. I've always wanted a guitar with this sound. Even if I don't end up with this guitar its reminded me how great a little 12 fret like this can be, especially with some years under the belt.
Just thought I'd share.

Speaking of little 12 frets, not a bad list price for this puppy...

Holy moly that's some serious coin. I rather fancy one of those Martin 000-15ms mahogany slot heads, but to be honest this little hofner is exactly the right sound.

nah I meant the hofner, I didn't even bother clicking the expensive guitar link If it says 'Martin' its not destined for my deck! Just spent a happy hour out there with the tricone, the sun, a glass of vino and the wife asleep inside on the sofa. Bliss.
I'll have a look at the Stellas, whats the shipping on them?

Usually around US$60-70. I have a 000 flat top in the air at the moment cost $65 from California.
Yeah been sliding on an old archtop with a nice red going down well out on the deck.

I have one exactly like the one on the left and it just nails that delta blues tone. From memory it was about 75 quid in England. I over payed but it was worth it!

Yup Kdawg, great sound and loud for little guitars. BG if you want one PM me, seems I just bought another one not 1/2 an hour ago, same as the one on the left, Harmony Stella H929.

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Re: Very nice old hofner 12 fret
Those Stella's look interesting - a quick check of Ebay shows a whole bunch available. I really like this Hofner though! I love the slot head look too.
