Re: Wah Upgrades and Mods?
I'll second the stinkfoot site for wah mods, I've true bypassed mine, added an LED and done his vocal and range mods, sounds great.
Also checkout R.G. Keen's "Technology Of The wah" article here: http://www.geofex.com/article_folders/w ... wahped.htm. Lots of cool info. The Anderton scratch fix mod is really simple and works a treat.

Re: Wah Upgrades and Mods?
I've done those mods on a Crybaby. Nothing too challenging there. T/B sounds better than the buffer when bypassed to my ears. I also did the capacitor mod to switch between standard and JH-1. There is a noticeable difference, the JH position sounds a lot more bassy. However I don't think I wired this as well as I could have because there is a loud pop when switching. I remember there is a fix for it somewhere but I never got round to it.
I would say T/B and the vocal mod are the most useful of all. Do it!
PS: If you believe the hype upgrading the inductor could be real good, but I have no experience of that

Too many guitars, not enough talent.

Re: Wah Upgrades and Mods?
I just opened up the wah and for some reason it seems more scary that doing the OT transplant on my amp, because it seem I have to cut the pcb traces for the input buffer, then change a resistor to compensate for the volume loss. I'm not even sure I bought the right switch. The one I got looks pretty much like the one that is already in there.

Re: Wah Upgrades and Mods?
Have you thought about selling the wah - and putting the money you would of spent on upgrading it towards another one.
You'll probably get at least $120 for it. and then maybe look at some of these ones.

My Crybaby was doing some tone sucking and I was advised (on here i think) to put my Boss TU-2 I front of it and now ya wouldn't know it was there until ya use it.

Re: Wah Upgrades and Mods?
I just scored it from TM for just over $80 (Crybaby GCB-95), so I have no plans to sell it yet. Like the amp I'll get my head around it and sus it out. I bought it for the purpose of learning pedal mods.AiRdAd wrote:Have you thought about selling the wah - and putting the money you would of spent on upgrading it towards another one.

First thing is to decide whether or not to remove the buffer when doing the TB. Some say do it, some don't but change the input impedence instead. I'm still reading up about the pros and cons.

I spend ages (and a fair bit of coin) tweaking a Vox 847, but was never really happy. Sold it and got a RMC Wizard Wah, best move imho. Hopefully you'll have better luck : )

Re: Wah Upgrades and Mods?
Pay a guy 80 bucks to mod a pedal, no chance. I say again, I bought it to mod myself. Thanks though.

Re: Wah Upgrades and Mods?
smile - i meant flick him a message for advice. He seems like an approchable guy. I was selling a pedal on Trademe that was modded by him. Apparently the previous owner had it done years ago. He left a message on my auction that he would offer a warrantly on the work he did on it for the winner of the auction. He also said he would upagrade it to his latest mod for free for that person too.Aquila Rosso wrote:Pay a guy 80 bucks to mod a pedal, no chance. I say again, I bought it to mod myself. I saw your coment about removing the buffer. From what he says in his auctions - he's got some definate views on removing the buffer when doing a true by-pass. I thought he might be able to point you in the right direction.

Re: Wah Upgrades and Mods?
I think he takes it out and the other pedal mod guy mac pherson leaves it in.
I'm considering gutting it and just using the enclousure to make a really nice old style wah circuit with all the correct bits. I'll see how it sounds first, I have not played it yet.
After how bad I thought the ZW wah I has was, I tend to presume they need modding from the get go
