The merging of the pedals... Help needed

Post by Kiwiaxe »

I have two pedals (wampler echo and bbe sonic stomp) that I want to pull out of their cases and build into one bigger enclosure. Weird I know! Anyone please able to recommend an enclosure source - or any custom pedal builders in need of an easy buck :)

bajaman could do the job.. he's posted info over at FSB that highlight the necessity for DC decoupling.. and jaycar do a bunch of enclosures at pretty fair prices. I'd offer to do it, but realistically am slammed with stuff on my plate at the moment.

So in other words, you want to have a pedal with two separate circuits, but linked together within the same enclosure. Kinda like connecting the two normally, then gluing them together?

Just trying to get my head around the details.

How about a mental picture?

Conjoined pedal works.

Here's an idea: you could have to two circuits completely separated inside the enclosure, no electrical connection whatsoever. The enclosure will have a total of four jacks (BBE input, BBE output, wampler input, wampler output) and two footswitches. You connect the BBE output to the wampler input with a patch cable in the same way that you in a normal pedal chain. This way you haven't altered either circuit or switching arrangement. Would this work?

No offence intended, but isn't that what I said?

EDIT: No, it isn't really

Yep the thought was inspired by what you said. Basically I was asking the OP if this simple method would suit their needs. If so, once you have an enclosure the rest of the operation should be a fairly straightforward transplant. I haven't actually had a look at either pedal so there may be added complications like pcb mounted jacks, but these can always be worked around if you have the time and inclination.

To answer the why, my delay and BBE take up too much space on my pedal board AND I'm paranoid about cramped cables (and their potential to crap out at inopportune times) AND ... well just because I can (if I can!).

I'm actually thinking slightly laterally now, and might see if someone can make me up a nice tidy unit that has a built in delay and BBE in one. Saw an ad on Tardme for PCB projects including the BBE and I see there's plenty of schematics around for delays.

reckon that's a better solution. pay attention to the DC decoupling (as mentioned above) and you'll be sweet.. there's a bunch of delays out there.. for digital the rebote 2.5 is nice and as you've seen the BBE is out there on the web too... you'll spend not too much money on DIYing it, and not put your commercial pedals at risk by messing with them (so they'll keep their value).
