Etching guitar pedals: anyone done it?

I tried this today for the first time with some success but it’s not great.
I left it for close to an hour which looks like it was to long.
Anyone have tips on how to do this better?

If you were going for a grungy industrial (as in heavy industry, not the music genre) look, with a "rusty iron look" case then the current etching would look great.

get those sponge brushes from the $2 shop art department, use them to wipe fresh sollution over the etch, then you can better control when to stop. and nail polish the edges then tape, to avoid etching corners. I have had a few cracks at it, but have given it away as I prefer the option of sanding off and redoing my screwups. overall you have pretty good results there, what method are you using to transfer?

I created a vinyl cut stencil and stuck it on.
Put the pedal face down in a thin layer of Hydrochloric Acid. Left it until I thought it was ready, I think it was a bit long though maybe? Wanting to get cleaner lines if possible

i think with vinyl cut you just need the edges to be super flat, so a good sand should make lines tighter, and yeah lift it out to check more often.
