Recommend me a Shimmer pedal
I find it a useful effect in small doses
Had a Strymon Bluesky; liked it.
Who else does good shimmer?

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

To build? Probably something fv1 based from pedalpcb would be the ticket. All commercial high end reverb and delay pedals use the fv1 chip (or a couple of them).

I'm grateful you found all the budget options.blackstratblues wrote: ↑Tue Dec 07, 2021 6:51 am Eventide H9, Strymon Timeline or Soundtoys Crystalliser plug-in.

Re: Recommend me a Shimmer pedal
I have a Neunaber Wet v4. The shimmer is pretty good... But I dont really like shimmer tho hah. With the Wet you can control the extent of the higher freq stuff, and then overall mix between shim and regular verb. It makes it less screechy, which is why I avoid shimmer in general. I also had a bluesky, this is on par with that, but more tweakable. Plus you get the other verb sounds. As far as the rest of the algorithms, Im not overly impressed by the hall or spring settings (liked the bluesky spring and hall more ), but the others are really good. Demos are online etc

GFI does a very good shimmer. +1 on the Neunaber. Some people like the Keeley Caverns too.
What's that EQD astral destiny like? Does it shimmer? Seems reasonably priced to me...

I guess this wasnt supposed to be in the DIY section?
Shimmer is: Reverb into Octave into Reverb again. Optionally adding delay, modulation before the last reverb.
A spin fv1 chip makes that easy enough to do. Building an analogue version would be tough! And probably crap since there isn't much control over pitch shifting in the analogue world. If you have a good pitch shifting VST (Eventide = awesome) you can wangle your own wide range of shimmer tones on the computer.

Another vote for Neunaber here. I have the Immerse, which does all their verby options I think. You are welcome to borrow it to see if it suits you. Not for sale though. I find the Neunaber verb to be very musical. As with all these kinds of effects, your guitar has to be in tune and properly intonated, or those ghost octaves become quite painful.

Has anyone said Mooer Shimverb yet? I think you could buy four for the price of one of the other options mentioned here and then run them all into each other...

+1. In the wrong hands shimmer is tantamount to aural rape.olegmcnoleg wrote: ↑Tue Dec 07, 2021 8:52 am As with all these kinds of effects, your guitar has to be in tune and properly intonated, or those ghost octaves become quite painful.

I had one... it didn't float my boat. It's been a long while but, IIRC, I think I preferred Polara's one.

Neunaber wet is the best in my experience, also had good luck with the Digitech Polara

For a budget option, the plate reverb on a Keeley Hydra has an adjustable shimmer setting. Haven’t used it much, though.
