Capt. Black wrote: Mon Jul 11, 2022 11:01 pm Reg, I admit I haven't been paying much attention to what you're up to. Are you making pedals to sell? Make to order? Just making as one-projects
All of the above really, one offs a lot. I get people semi regularly asking me to build pedals and I’m yet to settle on anything to consistently sell apart from Tone Benders and Fuzz Faces as my most common ones sold.

I have been thinking I need a Fender type amp in my collection to try them through too as I have a JTM45 and a Matchless DC30 clone to cover EL84 tones already, both of these amps take the pedals very similarly so apart from using a Fender virtual amp on my HX Stomp I can’t try them through a real tube Fender type amp to see how they react.

Edit: and for me the money isn’t as important as someone really appreciating my hand made pedal, it can take hours to put together one offs and I honestly treat them a little like my personal art collection that I hope someone else will love too! It’s really not a good business model so I suspect It will never venture too far from “hobby”

Wow, if I got a refund every time I bought a pedal and didn’t sound as good as the YouTube vids, I’d have zero pedals. I’d also be plugging straight into a Dumble that I could buy with all the refund money!

Benefit of the doubt, maybe some young kid who has yet to learn the hard way that not everything you buy to try suits your rig? Still, I guess I’d refund and then try and sell for a proper price?

It sounds like you’re dealing with someone quite young, possibly using their parent’s money.

Could you perhaps discuss what sound they want and maybe help out by taking the fuzz back, selling it to someone else and building them a simple circuit that will sound ok into cheap gear?

It does some like someone who is at the beginning of their journey. It could be an opportunity to educate or at least encourage them to look for knowledge. But then again it could be a PITA. They also need to learn that when it comes to TradeMe you can't go to disputes just because it isn't what you thought you were buying but was accurately described by the seller.

All of the above is good advice, but I'd caution against spending any more emotional energy on it/the buyer. You either need to decide to dig your toes in, or to let it go. If the buyer would cover the shipping cost (both what you will have paid to get it to them, and for them to pay to send it back) then I'd be minded to give them their money back and not invest another minute of time with/about them.

Had this happen not too long ago with something I sold. Literally a few days after the auction closed, he'd filed a dispute about the item having not arrived - without contacting me. I called him out on it and he basically said nevermind, while still whinging, and left positive feedback. Some people seem to get emotional or trigger happy when the slightest thing goes wrong and there is a chance they could play on your niceness to get something out of it. It's easy when you can hide behind a keyboard.

I remember back when Pro Guitar Shop was still around that they had developed something where you could basically re-amp a pedal through your gear so you could see what it sounded like before making a purchase. I can't remember what it was called.

I remember that! I used it to test out a Diamond Fireburst

Which I ended up with, funnily enough

So after I asked for a video of issue so I can see and hear what they are describing 2 days ago I’ve had radio silence. In my head this means either 2 things, 1:they have realised the error of there way and just going to leave it or
2: they are re-grouping for there next attack which from previous experience is going straight to small claim.

Or maybe they have just been busy.
