NPD: 4 band gyrator drive unit

I've had this idea for a long time... it's a 4 band graphic EQ wrapped up in a soft-clipping overdrive unit. Rather than a traditional tonestack I've used 4 gyrators on specific frequency bands that can then be boost or cut independently.

Each knob when set at noon is effectively flat, and you can then cut or boost those frequency bands independently of each other. Want more high mids for pick attack? Or less bass because the room is a bit farty? Remove some low mid buildup from a muddy mix? Or add some air up top for a bit of sparkle, or, scoop the mids more than ever before.

As a rough representation it's something like this:

And you can boost or subtract around those 4 nodes up to +/- 15db.

No artwork as of yet, but this is the layout:

The 4 white knobs are the tone stack, the black ones are drive and volume.

It's cool. I've never used gyrators much but they've won me over. Fiddly sure, but the results are worth it. With bass and treble on max, and the mids at 0, it's like you've got a bass guitar on the low string and electric guitar on the upper 4, it's really rather cool.

Awesome! What frequencies are each of the controls centred around?

Go for it! Any chance of a sound sample?

That's the basis of the mesa 5-band eq pedal and what they put in the mark amps. Certainly very musical

How would you describe the flavour of the overdrive?

It's a medium gain drive, voiced a bit fatter than a TS. Not a lot of compression going on as the diodes have a pretty high clipping threshold so you get a lot of transparency and openness before any clipping occurs. Couple that with a 4 band EQ and you can do a whole lot.

This sounds killer, when you releasing it :mental:

When I finalise the artwork. I've made one for myself already but doubtful the artwork will become production, I just like it.

But, this is taking up most of my time this since is the best seller only now it's updated and magnificent:

I really love that look but am having trouble associating it with fuzz though.

EDIT: my bad... I thought this was Fuzz Boy, but I guess this is the 4-band overdrive? It's very cool, love the design!

You're correct. The Fuzzboy is a different thing. The yellow one featured beneath is the EQ pedal, as yet unnamed, but ive been calling it the cuppa in my working files.
