Did a dumb thing...guidance and advice please....

Post by vintage52 »

So.....I bought a broken Ibanez PE-105 Power Equalizer with the grand intent of fixing it and as pointed out by my family, I have no practical abilities what so ever so may as well use it as a paper weight.

Can I get a recommendation as to who could look at and possibly fix the pedal?

It is 18 volt (2 9V battery cables inside) with my thought process being same as sellers - get the 2 cables working and also add an 18 volt power supply option as currently only has battery option.

Any contacts and advice would be welcome.

If none of the forum peeps want to have a look at it, then send it to someone like Waylon from McPherson music, or at least give him a call and see what he has to say.

I don’t even know what that pedal is or does, I’m going to google it just for interests sake…

That's a pretty low level of dumb thing...don't beat yourself up too much.

I was expecting something like, got caught with a stash, at my neighbour's house, nude, covered in peanut butter type scenario.

I was so close to bidding on that... but came to the same conclusion and already have enough parts sent out to be fixed.

Good luck with it though! Such a cool piece of kit.

That's a very precise, hypothetical scenario Grant. Do you think about this sort of thing often?

Sometimes it pays off - I got a “broken” Skreddy Screwdriver for $80…it literally just needed a knob screwed back on.

Sometimes it doesn’t and people have poured water through the whole thing so don’t beat yourself up.

What's actually wrong with it?

The seller comment:

It used to suck batteries so I planned to put a mains/transformed pwr supply into it.
During preparation I noticed it didn't even work with the batteries so I stopped.
No mods were made except for hole in case for input and me cutting the back of the battery clips to check for bad connection.
Maybe a battery wire had come loose. I had not touched the circuit. All this is recollection from many years ago.

First things first with older units: Replace all the electrolytics.
