METAL! (sheet metal that is)

Post by the_haunted »

Anyone know a good NZ place to get a custom chassis made up?
Preferably plated steel, laser cut or punched to specs, folded, then welded etc...

Auckland petrol tank services Ph (09)5765907. (Graham)
They have a large CNC laser which will cut virtually anything.
APT make stainless tanks for boats but they will cut/ fold anything to a drawing or sketch with dimensions.
You could have it done in polished stainless with TIG welded and polished seams.
Might cost a bit but it would look stunning and no rust.

We do stainless chassis and we have used Supreme Sheetmetal in Hamilton (Anth). The trick we have found is to get a single supplier who can deliver a finished product including labelling/engraving/inking or whatever. We are still exploring options as we are not completely happy with our process yet so keep us informed of how you get on and maybe we can help each other.

The greedy laser ink etchers charge more than the people who laser cut and fabricate the sheetmetal!
I am trying a crowd in Melbourne who are pricing up finished SS replacement panels for Fender amps.

I've already got some face-plates made up so I don't have to worry about screenprinting. I'm drawing up a DXF file (as soon as I work the CAD program out) so I can send it to a few places and get some quotes. I'll let you know how I get on.
Mmm, stainless or chrome plated is definitely what I'm after. Is the JSN-880 stainless? Looks more like chrome right? Damn thats a nice looking amp.

Yes the JSN-880 is mirror finish stainless steel which is the highest quality stainless finish available and most expensive but it does look great. We had that laser etched.

There are other creative ways of putting markings on metal, for instance, there is this stuff called lazertran which you print in a laser printer (any colour or design you like), transfer it onto the metal, then bake the metal in an oven and its permanent.
