Weber BFPR Clone kit
Ah well I bit the bullet and ordered one today - at least it'll look different from my own efforts. We'll see how long it takes to get here I suppose.

Wow, I'd love to build one of these. I'd be interested to know how much it cost you all up after shipping and tax, and how well it comes out. I dream of having a a nice little princeton clone alongside my Maz.

Re: Weber BFPR Clone kit
Nice! What was the shipping charge if you don't mind sharing?
My BFPR is a loud 14watts - too loud for most band settings in terms of gettign the tone I want AND being at a usable level. As a result I've just ordered a BFVC from Ceriatone. A single 6V6 should bring that headroom down. It's got a tone stack lift too to provide a tweed Champ sound.

Re: Weber BFPR Clone kit
They haven't got back to me with the freight yet. I expect around $200US. Then there's the customs duty (18% - this despite that fact that nobody makes tube amp kits in NZ!) and the GST (12.5% on everything including shipping cost), then other miscellaneous charges (like insurance ~$50) and so on. Probably be around $1200 kiwi all up taking into account the exchange rate etc I'd say. Still cheaper than buying a BFPR clone (not talking RI here) already made up.

So you have to pay customs AND gst?? 30.5% plus shipping?tubeswell wrote:They haven't got back to me with the freight yet. I expect around $200US. I nearly bought a metro kit a few months ago. If I had, I would have got a nasty surprise.

Re: Weber BFPR Clone kit
keen to know the definite answer to this as well. musical instruments all appear to be 12.5% GST on the customs website but I'm guessing an amp kit falls into a different (more expensive) category?

Re: Weber BFPR Clone kit
I was looking under 'amplifiers' here
http://www.customs.govt.nz/importers/Pr ... harges.htm
but it'd be good if it came in under 'musical instruments' (even better if I didn't have to pay any stinkin' customs duty) - time will tell.
But whatever, its cheaper than buying custom-built PR clone (and only a little bit more in parts than one of my own knock-ups would be)

It should come under musical instruments, it's not an amplfier... it's a box full of bits. You should just be in for GST.
I think BG ordered something from Weber...he might be the man

Re: Weber BFPR Clone kit
Dunno about being a musical instrument, but yes, I'd put it to customs that it isn't an amplifier, but rather a bunch of electronic components that you may later assemble any which way. Maybe asking Weber for for the schematic and any constructional instructions to be mailed seperately might help convince them of that.Vorbis wrote:It should come under musical instruments, it's not an amplfier... it's a box full of bits. 18% for amplifiers seems a bit steep.

Re: Weber BFPR Clone kit
Middle of the night transactions. FYI , the freight came to $190US, which makes it $775US incl freight (I opted for the $585 option with the Signature 12S alnico speaker). This is $1,060NZ at the mo'. (Although the currency transaction came to $1,116.85NZ - confused?)
So depending on customs and GST I'm expecting and extra $145 for customs duty (if its an 'amp' and not a 'musical instrument' or a 'component' of some kind) and $140 for GST on the shipping and product cost, plus about $50 for ins (and $30 for the customs fee I think). (i.e.; $1480NZ)

Re: Weber BFPR Clone kit
That's a good price...my handwired PR clone (including NOS Fender faceplate and knobs) was $1150 landed but that was only the chassis!

Re: Weber BFPR Clone kit
don't remember what I paid, but I got the chassis/trannies etc and don't recall having to pay anything, might just have been lucky

Its not enough that we succeed, we still need others to fail
Re: Weber BFPR Clone kit
