Thinking about an Amp Kitset

Thinking about building a valve amp around 5 watts for using at home. It looks like an easy way to get the expenditure past the treasurer ! Aston electronics (http://www.astonelectronics.co.uk/valve ... -kits.html) in the UK build there own range of built up and kit sets for a decent price. Just wondering if any one has purchased a kit set and how it went. I'm OK for experience for building one just don't want to waste cash if there are better options. Thanks.

The transformers look like Dagnalls.
This would put me off straight away.
Maybe Ryan could sell you a 5F1 kit or similar?

Thanks Alan, Great to get your expert opinion. As you know there is not a lot of parts required so I think I will price up the parts and at least save on the overseas freight. There is a new Peavey ValveKing Royal 8 on Trademe for $350 which is attractive but It will be more satisfying buiding my own. Thanks again.

If you want a cheap wee 5w tube amp then these seem to get good reviews: http://mpcamplification.com/store/

He's on trademe too: http://www.trademe.co.nz/music-instrume ... 445260.htm

Thanks. It looks very good. I cleaned out the garage some weeks back which was bad timing now that I am interested in doing a build. I think I have a good power transformer somewhere so If I can't find it I may buy an amp as news tranies sure are $$$$ killers
