Grill Cloth Advice Please!

Is replacing the grill cloth on a 2x12 cab (and getting a reasonable result) a doable job for an absolute beginner or would I better paying someone who knows what they're doing?

If you're reasonably handy and have got a good staple gun (that takes heavy duty staples) you could do it yourself. A blow dryer will, to a reasonable degree shrink whatever cloth you are using. Or I'll do it for $5 hand shandy!!

Thanks Mike, if I lived in Ak I might have taken you up on that! I think I'll give it a go!

BG had some good tips on this too. He said something about wetting the fabric first, so that when it dries it tightens up?
If you're using a pattern (like the Vox diamond), make sure to take a lot of time to line up the design so it's square.

Some fabric is entirely plastic, won't wet easily

Is a $5 hand shandy similar to a Pulp Fiction $5 shake in terms of quality, or more a some dodgy backstreet in Bangkok, checking for an adam's apple sort of thing?

(got to love these word filters...)

Whatever floats your boat I guess! Try typing in "1hundy" (but with a space after the 1) in a reply and previewing it - JB told me that BG likes the odd hand shandy so he's done some tricky stuff with the forum editor....

if you have the plastic based cloth, go easy with the hairdryer - and never use a hot air gun on it...

If you want vintage toan, avoid the plastic grill 'cloth'... which apparently is not easy. When ordering cloth it doesn't say what material it is made off. Well, for me anyway.

BG may have some sources where they sell real cloth.

Dont know what sort of grill cloth you had in mind but I did a pair of stereo speakers with 2 way stretch from Spotlight and that turned out real sweet.
