NAD - this time a combo

Post by Jay »

Another Jansen 4/TWELVE copy, finished it yesterday :D

Build quality - superb
Sound - as per original but with more control to go from clean to crunchy
Gain and MV mods - works beautifully, should have been incorporated in original design

(Thanks again to the amp gurus on this forum who assisted with the design changes)

That looks really great
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

Ear watering tasty :D
I find both amps retained the character of the original Jansen 4/Twelve. Having two EL84s I find it sounds a little more Vox than Fender although the circuit appears to be based on a Fender design. It certainly can do the cleans, albeit with reduced headroom due to its low wattage (12W). With the gain stage, it can go from mild overdrive to full crunch a lot 'easier' than the original. This arvo I tried a tele with a P90 in the bridge - sounded great. Last year we did some sound samples at Slowy's which I posted on the forum. (I am sure Slowy can answer your question way better than I can).

The knob is specifically for you to fiddle with so you can select 4", 8" or 16".

Thanks, I am pretty pleased with the Jansen logos too that someone created some years ago and I was able to buy them without any issues.
