That DIY link the sizzle posted makes good reading and appears doable. I had a look in my stock pile & much to my surprise found the new Dayton Audio L-pads. I have 100w 3/8" shaft in 16 and 8 ohm version. What impedance are you chasing?

It's for a Fender Pro Jr, which I'm pretty sure is 8 ohm.

Okay I'll have box it up & post (shudder). Looks approx NZ $25, add forum sales tax @ $10, add postage about $5. Total $40, this is new and unopened in original box.

Sort of – it's variable in the sense that its method of working varies the impedance to achieve the attenuation. But yes, it's not like the Hotplates where you have a fixed impedance
The Brake-Lite is a resistive load (as opposed to a reactive load).
