Island Bay Classic

Post by kwerk »

Nope, not a yacht race.

A new design, with an accidental (slipped router bit) body contour that ended up being quite unique.

This one's for my nephew for last Christmas.

Swamp kauri, rewarewa/black maire neck, Wilkinson bridge and one of those fantastic Dimarzio runout deals from Music Planet in the neck.

Thanks fullas.

I know the HS isn't to everyone's taste, but i'm OK with it.

The finish is a whole bottle of Tru-oil. Love that stuff.

I don't know what you do for a day job Kwerk, but presumably you're wasted in whatever role you've been given unless it's luthier/artist. Great looking guitar my friend. The body has hints of Ibanez Talman which in my books is one of the better looking "modern" designs.

Thanks, man, nice of you to say. Nope I don't work for Weta or anyone as fun as that, in fact my job is about as far from fun as it's possible to get.

The body is skewed/modified version of the body shape I used for my solid body acoustic build last year. That body shape was an amalgam of Tele, LP Jr, Coronado and Martin D28.

I'm not a Talman fan.

Yep. Unfortunately, not having used it before I didn't think about orientation, so it's on the underside. I'll be building another for myself, so I'll have it the other way round so you can see it while you're playing.

Here's another of the back.

The cavity cover was a natural hole in one of the slices of kauri I got from the slab I bought. Combined with epoxy, it was the perfect size for the cavity I'd laid out.

awesome job, the rewarewa looks great, and that cavity cover :zomg:
Hurdy Gurdy.... some how... and I'm not entirely certain how mind you, an instrument that sounds like someone has shoved a nest of angry hornets into a goose with a kazoo bill and is randomly slapping the poor creature with an accordion.... Sounds amazing.

That looks pretty kick arse as far as i'm concerned. Mind you, don't trust me. I think Teisco SS-4L's are cool guitars.
