Re: What's on your work bench?
Bought a set of 1979 Yamaha SA-2000 pickups on Buyee. They are the real deal but those gold covers are badly corroded. Took a punt on some Aliexpress 'gold' covers and they are actually a perfect fit. They are a bit deeper (19mm instead of 16mm) and the gold colour looks a bit like the lid of a Golden Syrup tin . I do like the more 'reddish' gold colour of the originals but for the price the replacement is worth it.
The single coil tap is pretty useful as it produces a very acceptable single coil sound.
Here some photos.

They are unpotted now, so I ll keep it that way. Got the neck pickup in a Tele ATM just for testing. They will go in a guitar I have yet to build.

I think the old covers look fantastic!
But then I would....

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

I suppose I could try to source old tuners, bridge, etc to match

Yes. Very much yes.

Re: What's on your work bench?
I've just replaced the awful bridge pickup and the okay neck Pickup on my Baritone guitar.
Neck has been replaced with Dimarzio's Virtual Vintage 54 Pro. Noiseless single coil.
Bridge has been replaced with Tonerider Rocksong.
Sounds MUCH better now.

It's the Aria J-B’tone. It's a Baritone guitar with a 30 inch scale length and an offset body.
https://ariaguitarsglobal.com/product/j ... ne-guitar/
You can buy it from Rockshop for $500.
I've put some thoughts into it in another thread.

Looks killer and with a few mods like you’ve done I bet it will be brilliant!!jhyang549 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2023 12:27 pmIt's the Aria J-B’tone. It's a Baritone guitar with a 30 inch scale length and an offset body.

How do you find the poplar to work with? I have some but it seems it likes 'coming apart' on the year rings... Ie, there seems to be little bonding strength between the year rings.

I’ve never had a work bench and I never will
Mrs Foal has and she’s been leadlighting this week. Cementing tomorrow I believe I’ll put up a photo if anyone is interested
