I kinda enjoy the wiring side of it, what I don't enjoy is figuring out placement so it works practically and aesthetically

That is an incredible compliment as he is one of my favourite guitarists!!

Previous iterations were more heading towards his sound but now I’m fully back in ambient shoegaze post rock mode!

Front speaker panel done, Hopefully finishing the framing and all the sealing this weekend.

For once, there are bananas for scale! Looking great!

Hurrah, 40 year old R2R working as it should. After cleaning the heads and head switch thoroughly, it is as if this thing is operating like brand new... well almost

There are two rubber bands in it. One for the counter driven by the 'supply' reel. This one is stretched, so no longer keeps the counter wheel turning. The other band is connecting the main flywheel to the tape pin driver. Appears to be in good condition, tape runs without wow and flutter.

Still, if anyone knows where I can source NOS rubber bands for this model, please do tell.

Most surprising is the 40 year old tape playing the recorded music without noticeable degradation. In the Land of Grey and Pink plays loud and clear
