Re: Binding on a guitar......first attempt!
I've been getting in on the binding act too it would seem..
This re-bind is for a Maton dreadnaught that unfortunately had the back smashed in, so I've made a new back using 3 of the 4 original back braces. The original back was 3-layer laminate but the replacement is solid (walnut) and an excellent colour match for the sides.
I used much thinner binding than Kdawg did, 0.060" to match the factory spec, not that you can tell under the tape of course.

So are the original kerfings etc left on the body - the old top came clean off the sides? Thats very cool!

Yes and yes. Maton use solid kerfing rather than traditional notched kerfing like a Martin. The old back (what was left of it..) came off cleanly, sides unscathed.Lostininverness wrote:So are the original kerfings etc left on the body - the old top came clean off the sides? Thats very cool!

Here she is. All ready for painting.
It'll be clear nitro over the whole thing. I am toying with the idea of a black headstock face and white button tuners. Any thoughts?1935 Martin D-45, 1942 Gibson Southern Jumbo,1950 Fender Broadcaster, 1954 Fender Strat, 1958 Gibson Moderne prototype, 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard.

I vote for Denche blue, to be applied with a crappy, dried out paint brush...
And so does the rest of the forum

Re: Binding on a guitar......first attempt!
Opinion duly noted.
Finishing options;
1) Denche blue, applied poorly with paint brush.
2) Something nice.
Anyone else want to ad or vote?

Re: Binding on a guitar......first attempt!
Still not finished, but it's had all its bits screwed on and it's strung up.
It still needs to be laquered and i'd love to put on some pickup covers if anyones got some floating around!1935 Martin D-45, 1942 Gibson Southern Jumbo,1950 Fender Broadcaster, 1954 Fender Strat, 1958 Gibson Moderne prototype, 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard.
