I have been playing with colours

What colour for my archtop?

Got some food colours out from my daugters cake baking madness.

What you see is different mixes of colours and different types of application. One mix is with water and the other with Mirotone (clear finish water based).

As the binding is ebony, I ideally end up with a lightish colour, preferably orangy as a gretschy tribute.

What you think? Any suggestions? Any reason for not using food colours?

I threw the blue in for Conway!

That is actually more yellow than brown, but yes, looks kinda cool in that photo.
ohhh dynasonics? tell me more!

I'm itching to get my t-armonds into my dearmond les paul, buuuut logististics. Ie. I don't live anywhere lol.
That is off topic, Can't answer it. :sarc:

Yes, the Gretsch has dynasonics in it. The one I am building will have BadBoys in them.

Hmm, I do like that but don't forget my binding is ebony, so fairly dark. I would like it to stand out.

Yes - in the last photo it's definitely yellow & I don't like it.
Light brown like the H671 in my avatar would look good especially with a subtle burst.

with ebony binding I would go yellowish. Orange doesn't work at all imo. Blue would be ok but yellow stands out

Yes, I hope so, I forgot to say that I intend to finish with something like semi gloss water based clear varnish

Something like this then?

btw, the test colours are on on the same timber I made the body from: macrocarpa.

I prefer the darker one but both are nice.

I think Tru oil provides a yellowish glow? May try that out on a test piece.

Yes, I think brownish/yellow would look good with the ebony binding.

Agree with the Orange or 'Western Orange' vibe. The guitar looks like a semi-hollow Round-up.

the orange works with the light binding but I think it would lose something with black binding. Yellower one would look good with black
