I've got some old (10 yrs ish) western red cedar here. It's got some nice tight growth rings on the endgrain and it's a good size for a body, good weight too.

Has anyone here used this with success on electric guitars?

Beware cedar splinters, that’s an especially splinter prone timber once you get started

Mine is still drying.... There are some nice redwood builds on the web. Just google.

Captain Black has or had a cedar Tele. Smelled very nice.

I made a cedar JM. Headstock dives like a MF.

Ash made that from Spanish Cedar. I don't know how different (if at all) that is from any other kind of Cedar. But oh man does it smell great every time I open the case!

Spanish cedar is closely related to mahogany (hence is good for classical necks), but smells like coniferous cedar.

Both macrocarpa and redwood are cypress species. My macrocarpa guitar turned out lovely imo. Extra benefit, stick your nose in one of the F holes for some nice fragrance
