Spraying a burst (my first attempt)

Had my first attempt at spraying a burst today and although not perfect (couple of runs etc) the look is certainly what I had hoped for. I was going for a faded lemon/honey burst type look. Not a huge fan of red in bursts, I much prefer the faded 58 almost plain top look.
Back when they used Aniline dyes that accidentally faded out the red, that’s my favourite look for a burst.
Guitar is built by Lostinverness and rings like bell! Feels alive, here’s hoping the many layers of lacquer I just put on doesn’t dampen its liveliness.
It has been chambered at my request and likely to get a set of TV Jones pickups (sort of burst meets Gretsch) but I had it made with standard humbucker size routes so I can swap in some PAFs when I inevitably decide I’d rather a classic burst tone to match the look.
Really looking forward to getting this assembled and in regular rotation on my guitar rack. Now I just have to wait 4 weeks for it to harden for final level sanding and polishing.

What it looked like 2 days ago, and after today’s effort.
Sapele body stained cherry red, mahogany neck and maple top.
Fretboard is a dark hard wood that I can’t remember the name of, trying to replicate ebony was the goal.

Honestly Reg, this bust is looking great. And the guitar is fantastic also. Did you spray from the outer edge, past the body, into the centre?

Pickups - I can’t recommend highly enough the Seymour Duncan Psyclones. They do them in full hb size and nickel covers.

Honestly Reg, this bust is looking great. And the guitar is fantastic also. Did you spray from the outer edge, past the body, into the centre?

Pickups - I can’t recommend highly enough the Seymour Duncan Psyclones. They do them in full hb size and nickel covers.

The very outer edge I sprayed from middle of guitar towards the outside but the blend didn’t look great so I went over again from
A further distance away but from different angles until I was happy. I then did a few clear coats with some amber tint over the whole guitar to try and get it looking more blended and consistent overall. Then probably 5-10 coats of straight clear.
It has come out better than I expected I would achieve tbh, it’s nice when you have a vision in your head and it comes together.
