This needs to make the cut. Send the boys over here for some feedback if there's any doubt.Zorran wrote:@ Basket Case : yeah man.. hopefully itll make the cut to be a new way home song![]()

I notice you put quite alot of bottom end on your kick - very 'round' compared to your normal metal stylez.

Zorran you are a fucking monster of metal. I wish more metal guys were into this rather than 'widdly widdly no one cares that you're good at guitar' shit. I could listen to this sort of riffage all day long.
Re: New Axe FX Clip
aww shucks thanks dudes. sam.. yeah groove is a big deal for me. if it doesnt get me moving its pointless. i think that influence comes from meshuggah who are probably the grooviest metal band ever.
@ badmotor : yeah man.. gotta have big ass drums when you can.. its the only way for this kinda music at least
thanks so much for your responses dudes
warm fuzzies. cheers!

Re: New Axe FX Clip
Thing I dig is amount of texture going on with all the various parts. Fancy giving us a run-down on the various parts recorded, panning/fx etc. I understand if that's too much typing, but I'd like to know.

sure martin id be more than happy to
in the intro, there are 2 layers of the main rhythm part with tremolo, one slightly dirtier panned a bit to the right, and one clean one kinda panned to the left. then theres one very ambient oodles of delay and reverb and mod and synth kinda thing underneath it giving it alot of atmosphere, and then theres a very reverbed out harmonics part panned right.
then from the time the main riff kicks in until the chorus, theres just 2 tracks of rhythym guitar, panned hard left and right. i did however use a stereo enhancer on the rhythyms. they give it a touch more separation from the rest of the mix imho and nobody really is going to listen to this clip on a mono speaker. i hope.
when the chorus kicks in, there are 2 layers of very low gain just doubling the chorus so it doesnt turn to complete fizz and cuts through on smaller speakers. this also continues during the bridgey riff at 2:05 and the last chorus and last riff too so the mids dont drop out.
also under the chorus there are 2 more atmospherey layers.. one doing octaves, and another arpegiated sorta layer. but they both have generous helpings of reverb and delay. the arpegiated one changes ever so slightly and continues over the next cycle of the main riff and that subdued pre bridge section.
then during the bridge there are 2 layers of similar tonality doing the same thing with slightly different tones.. then before the last chorus.. there are 2 more low gain sounds doing the intro semi dirty bit... and in the last chorus i continued one of them to uphold the frequency spectrum and to not lose vibe. i think it messed with the palm mutey chorus a bit but i hope thats something audible upon repeated listens so i dont mind it so much.
thats about it. back in the day id have about 4-6 layers (yes always even numbers :p) but these days ive come to fill as much space with 2. on my own tracks i.e. with bands etc ill still go to town with layering if required

Very cool, ta for that.
Nowadays I always find myself listening to stuff and trying to pull it apart, figure out the tones and panning. It's great to get some insight on how you did it.

Your usual excellent work...

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll spend thousands on fishing equipment he'll use for a bit, then get bored and move onto something else.

Wow, I was sure I heard synth in there. Great use of ambient tones!
Sorry if you've said already, but what DAW do you use?
