Was it? Great if it was. Apple AirTags would be a good idea.
I reckon you could sneak one under the pickguard somewhere.
I wonder if it'd interfere with the pickups in any way. Anyway, I'd thought the same thing. I think there have been instances of people tracking-down their devices to an address only for the police to fail to act. That'd be frustrating.
Hi fellas. I've got 4 x airtags and had them hidden in a caravan, back of a '66 Princeton Reverb and in some guitar cases. But I recently took the two from cases and placed them under the pickguards of my Jazzmaster and Strat.

No issue with pickup interference.

I also took the speakers out of each as they can emit a sound when separated after a while.

While there are Airtag scanners and iphone users can be alerted after a time delay that an airtag is travelling with them, I think we're ahead of the curve enough at the moment to keep ahead of these scummy types.

To be fair, if the airtag works the same as my apple wallet, I'd just throw it in the bin.

According to 'Find my', my wallet was last seen at home Yesterday at 6:42pm

Although it went to mitre10 with me today, Union Post in ellerslie for lunch (45 mins), 4 square and then home. When I took it off the back of my phone to charge it.

Its fallen off in my car, and I've tried to find it - no, just didn't show up. Its pretty shit.

For a time they were promoting that 'Tile' in NZ. Problem was that it relied on a signal being relayed across a network of Tiles so it was no use out in the sticks.
