Info about amp building has been democratised - it’s no longer hard to get good sensible knowledge about how to make things work like they weren’t meant to.

Also, I think the digital age is so horrific for our brains that people that used to unwind watching the telly or dick about on computers are much more interested in relaxing by making something that has a romantic past and you can actually hold the parts.

Amen brother! I'm at my happiest with tools in my hand working on or creating something.

Tubes work the way they work. You can change the values in and around it, but the tubes gotta be wired a certain way. That's why so many designs are derivative - they have to be in order to function. Same is true of pedal designs, there's only a handful of ways to make gain, filter the signal etc.

It's like Mexican cooking. You've got the same 20 ingredients but you can make a universe of different dishes by using some, or all, of those ingredients in different amounts at different stages of the process.

I think the Two Rock, Divided by 13, 65Amps, etc etc builders are making creative circuits, and altho derivatives, they are unique as a whole functioning sonic tool.

Sadly the local guy who did all my prints , canvas stretching , image capturing has had a medical event and retired . No one local doing the work now and I haven’t had the inclination to try and find a new printer after using Neil for so long. It’s highly likely I won’t produce any more large prints so the remaining stock at Helena bay gallery and the surf shack in waipu may be the last !
