Come round to my place if you want to hear it for yourself. Play the 900 against a 800, 2000, Jose' and friedman and you'll be pretty clear on where it stands in the marshall tone lineup

I want to go to there! Assuming you are at least an hours flight from CHCH though?

Re: JCM900 4102 opinions?
Thanks for the offer. The plan was to find something to contrast the dual rec I have and since I don't see any of the other models for sale anywhere (save for a TSL which doesn't tickle my pickle) it'll only ignite GAS for other toys, so I'll try my luck with my recently submitted cheeky offer.
Cheers though, that's awesome of you to offer help to a random.

Re: JCM900 4102 opinions?
I recently rang up a local CHCH backline company to see if they had any amps to offload (which they didn’t) and they said they currently had 4 x JCM900s for backline and they wouldn’t sell any of those either as they were hired out regularly. So obviously there are still some bands using them for touring. Not sure who?

Fluffs playthrough on YouTube sounded good, and the ones from tricrow studios sound good too, but he can't dial in a lead tone.
Either way I'm picking it up tonight at 6pm. It's a bit of a hike but my intrigue got the better of me.

It would except for the shite speakers, it's in Taupo, and costs more than the 900. Not a brilliant combination of factors. Plus it always feels you take a massive bath on jet city gear should you come to sell it. As good as they might be they're not very strong in the resale market.

Yeah, you kind of have to pick it up cheaply if you want to get a similar return if you decide to sell.NippleWrestler wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 12:34 pmIt would except for the shite speakers, it's in Taupo, and costs more than the 900. We'd all be interested in hearing your thoughts once you've had a chance to get to know it a bit.NippleWrestler wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 12:06 pm Either way I'm picking it up tonight at 6pm. It's a bit of a hike but my intrigue got the better of me.

If you haven’t seen this comparison yet it demonstrates the differences pretty well in a rock context.
My observations are the 800 has a lower grunt/growl that the 900 doesn’t have. But the 900 still sounds like Marshall, just a slightly different EQ?

Didn't hate any of them tbh. Interesting on the 900 he had the treble fully off. Makes me wonder how bad it sounds with it up, might roll the bees in. Tried one years ago, can't recall much about it now though.
Also, sitting that close to an 800 with the master on 4 is painful from my experience. Couldn't spy his hearing protection

I'm sure theres a ton of mods you can do to a 900 to get it closer to an 800

Didn’t really open up the 800 or 900 did he? He pushed the Jube a little harder, and you can hear it. That said, they all sound like pussy magnet to me…..
