Cool. I'm logged on to messenger now, and it has not popped up telling me Youv'e added me. So if you have already done it, you may want to confirm you have the hotmail address right.
note: it has 3 "0"'s. Which is a bit odd....

I've got an 80's RAT 2 and am still considering if I want to part with it....

Definetly sounds like something is loose in your amp

No. I did the 'Parkhead Mod' so it sounds much ballsier at lower volumes.

In saying that I mostly run it on 10 and aim the cabinet away depnding on my volume needs.
I also sold my 1960a and got a JCM800 1936 which helped dump some volume but none of the Balls. It's actually a tighter sounding cab

Have you made sure that all of the tubes are seated well and plugged in good and snug?

During the sound change, have you looked at the tubes to see if maybe they change in colour at all (glow brighter, dim etc)?

If all else fails, you may be better off going to a decent amp tech and getting it checked over.
Holy shit, it didn't do this before, but I turned the volume up more than usual today and noticed the left EL34 was glowing red hot. I don't mean just a little. The whole thing. Hmm maybe I need new tubes after all.

Gonna get Guy to go over it fully now. eek.

lol,

I did that (trademe) in a fit of frustration, really. But I'll leave it up for now.

It is a great amp and better than the mesa I had before, but I'm gonna move to something a little more modern if I can. Definitely EL34 tho.

I updated the add with the faults it has at the moment. Hopefully Guy will email me back so I can get this thing in top shape again.

Problem is Modern = No Tone/Poor Quality Construction.

Whatevers wrong with your amp will be quite simple, Believe me.

Also I will most likely throw a bit of stuff on Trade Me this weekend and that may include the RAT 2.
Will check for that thing you wanted if I do :)

That's a myth. You just have to choose your products. A lot of people believe handwired = god-like quality. It's false. Hand-wiring = unreliable reproduction, and quality DESIGNED printed circuits are reliably reproduced, as well as cheaper, less likely to fail etc. So called "Tone-junkies" are snobs and not really onto the facts. Just following the myths like any other trend.

Try to convince the high end modern amp manufacturers that they have no tone and no quality.
