Took my Blackheart into the Rockshop last night to get them to have a look at the issue I was having. Max replaced the original Chinese power tube with a Sovtek one, and that solved it. I've yet to have a good play with it since then, but when I was testing it in the shop it seemed to break up a tad earlier, which is cool. Looking forward to giving it a good thrashing. 8)
Same thing happened to me. I took it in to the shop and got fed some finger-pointing garbage about how it's not designed to be turned up that loud (grrr). Anyway they replaced it with a Sovtek and I think it sounds a bit more ballsy than it did with the Chinese tube.

It's a great amp though, sometimes I give it a bit of extra drive with an eq pedal or a even just a univibe with the output level set fairly high.

What do you think of the 3watt versus 5watt settings? To me the 5 sounds punchier even at low volumes...
I agree regarding the 3w/5w difference, it definitely sounds punchier and breaks up sooner (and nicer) on the 5w. I'm kinda surprised they tried to tell you not to turn your amp up loud. :? Pretty sure that's what they're supposed to do... I haven't cranked mine that hard out, so it's a bit daft to think that its volume that caused the issue.

hahah honestly, I was completely speechless. It totally caught me off guard to hear someone say that and all I could murmer was "ah.... oh.. really?"

I dunno, maybe they were just having a bad day... It actually noticed the sound before I bought it, but it's hard to tell what's making what noise in that rattly rockshop test room and I figured I could just take it back if it still did it at home.

When I was trying it out at the shop I had it plugged into a 4x10 cab and I can testify that it sounds mean through a quad XD

No GAS because I have no idea what it does! I have been looking at this one though: http://www.bitmomodkits.com/servlet/the ... ODS/Detail

I would have considered this one if they had listed it before I got the holy grail. http://www.bitmomodkits.com/servlet/the ... sh-/Detail

Agree bigtime about the 3w vs 5w thing.

Yeah I probably couldn't be bothered with the point to point thing. Being such a basic amp it's pretty tempting to add stuff to it. That triple bypass could be cool for the 'more headroom' setting, but yea... maybe when the warranty runs out

Do you use the grail into the black heart? how's it sound?

still waiting for it to arrive - will let you know when I've tried it out! (the downside of ebay - the agonising wait for npd!)
