Valuation resources
I have two amps I am thinking of selling but I'm a bit unsure if I'm ready to let them go. They have become more ornamental than jammed on. Problem I'm having is determining what they are worth, one is quite rare (Reinhardt Ampzilla) and the other is at least hard to come by in clean condition (1977 Marshall JMP 2204). I can't even find a Reinhardt amp of any description available for sale anywhere in the world & similar JMPs on reverb.com are crazily priced & have probably been listed for years.
What valuation resources are available to me?
What sales sites are worth checking out?
I do not want any price offers, just looking for help with what they're worth.
Saw a '73 Marshall 2061 sell on tm recently for $3300 but that's an older, rare model with el84s(?) & I'm not sure how that correlates to mine for various reasons.
Any help/advice appreciated

I had a Reinhardt. Got it from Darmajester and sold it to some guy up north.

Re: Valuation resources
I've had the amp for ten years, previous owner had the caps done by Audio34 in Auckland. All transformers seem original with correct numbering on them according to my limited research. I was told the circuit is all original but I would have no idea what I was looking at! Has a test date on the inner label of 09/08/77 so it's coming up for a birthday!!sizzlingbadger wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 8:19 am That JMP looks very clean, is it like that inside too ?

Re: Valuation resources
I love it how they put the trannies down one end of the amp.. makes for a neat time carrying it when the handle is in the middle.. At least with your 50w they are a little more central under the handle.
No one ever died of hard work.. but why take the risk..

Yeah I've had some very nose divey 100 watters!
I purchased a road case for this the week after I got it as I was taking it straight out on tour at the time, kept it well hidden & protected till stage time. Really has been my precious!

Re: Valuation resources
The question of value is an interesting one. As hamo said (possibly in another thread) it is about finding the right buyer at the right time in order to get maximum price for such a niche and valuable item or set of items.
[UNHELPFUL CRAZY TALK TIME]
If you needed to get rid of them in a hurry you could put them on Trademe (one at a time would probably be best) at $1 reserve and let the market decide what they are willing to pay for it. With sufficient liquidity in the market you should get a fair reflection of the value. However, my experience with high end amps tells me that the liquidity in the NZ market is often insufficient for high-end items, so it is highly risky.
I always sell this way, list multiple items simultaneously and cross-market between them. I also allow at least a week for the auction and set the end time for 8pm on a Monday night which is allegedly the busiest time. On balance and across multiple auctions I invariably get the total value I estimated them at, but you win some and lose some. The design is to create a bidding frenzy where rational thought is disrupted by the competitive desire to win the item at any cost.
You could also market the auctions via fora, BaceFook etc. to drrum up maximum interest.
In the case of your two amps it may be better to list them one after the other, or at the same time depending on how you view the bidding frenzy of the market attempting to win one of the items Vs the similarity of the two items cannibalising the potential bids on each other.
Of course, this is purely a thought experiment as you would not be crazy enough to do this. It also strikes me that you probably don't need to get rid of them.

Don't sell them. You will regret it later.Mr Davison wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 12:15 am I have two amps I am thinking of selling but I'm a bit unsure if I'm ready to let them go.

a lot of belt tightening going on at the moment, not the best time to be trying to get top dollar for anything.
Wouldn't want to be trying to sell a house right now or anything crazy like that....

Re: Valuation resources
I'll often use Ebay as a price reference for items I don't know the value of. Then make it attractive on TM compared to Ebay pricing (plus the benefit of a much cheaper freight cost and running on 240V).
