Hello, I've had a really hairbrained idea and I was wondering if it might work.
I own a Vox AC30 combo and have always wanted a matching 2x12 speaker cab. I was wondering if it was possible to get a hold of one of those AC30 valve reactors (the cabinets look pretty similar) and use it purely as a speaker cab. I'd chuck better speakers in there but probably keep the SS/Hybrid amp in the shell or (I could house it for fun in dIy enclosure). Would the shell sound bad with the hole for the ss amp/control panel on top if I removed the amp?
I know this kind of sounds like lunacy, but I normally have my amp on a chair/stand so the sound doesn't hit my ankles and would at least look more visually pleasing than an old school chair.
This is the kind of thing I'm going for:
Using a combo amp chassis for a speaker cab?

Yeah, will work fine! Extra holes shouldn't make much difference (I used a 2x12 with a single speaker for ages, sounded good, although that extra hole was aimed out front). Taking the amp out will make the cab lighter too.
Just remember to check the speakers' rated watts and impedances match the amp.

Nothing to see here.

I used a Deluxe Reverb combo cab without a chassis in it for years. Sounded quite bright, but I suspect that was the ear-bleeding 2x10s I had in there.

You too huh? Thought it was just me.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

I still use it as a cab for the Cali Tweed occasionally. It's still very bright. But I think a little less so now that it has a chassis in it.

If I win lotto I’d buy a dumble combo and use it as a speaker cab for my AC10.
