NAD: Marshall 1974 clone
This one has been in the pipeline for a while, but is finally coming together.
The kit is from GDS Amplification. Pretty much a direct 1974 clone with a custom-wound transformer. Highly regarded by the people on the 18W forum. Upgraded transformer is important, given the propensity of the Marshall reissues (1974x and 2061x) to cook them.
The original plan was to assemble the kit myself, but I realised that with three guitars on my workbench and a baby on the way I was unlikely to get the time. Enter MikeC, who whipped it up in a matter of hours and for a very reasonable price (probably less than $1 for every volt it sent through his heart).
18W, two channels, tremolo, no master volume. I have a single 12" Celestion G12M Greenback (for now). I need to decide how I want to wire the OT to the speaker. Easiest would be simply hard-wiring, but I'd like to be able to connect it to an external cab now and again.
The cab is by BG. None of my guitars or amps are green, so thought I should take the plunge. With the gold Plexiglass, I'm getting slightly terrifying Dale Steyn vibes. It looks great, and I can wait to beat the crap out of it.
I haven't plugged it in yet, due to the MiL currently inhabiting the guitar sauna. Maybe tomorrow.
I can't bloody wait.

Team effort! Superb!

The speaker was also from a forumite. Really does feel like a team effort!

Cab looks great & styly in green with the gold amp plate. Your pic beat me to it (Aussie/Saffa colours)!

Congrats man! Another wee one joins the fold. Just fang the shit outta it…MiL won’t mind…it would be a cold-hearted mother that would deny the joyful scream of a baby Marshall.

That is stunning! We need another gearfest early next year and I should pay more attention to these not modern high gain weapons.
The older I get, the more disappointed in myself I become.

Re: NAD: Marshall 1974 clone
Yeah I reckon a late summer Gearfest! I'm on leave til March, so gotta do something with my time.
I played these a lot when the reissues came out in the mid 2000s. If you wanted a boomer to buy a Les Paul or 335, plugging this in and turning up to 4 does all sort of Beano/Brothers In Arms things at a pretty reasonable volume. I always wanted one, but whenever I had the money there would be none in stock. And the forumites who own them aren't letting go!
Not sure how im going to fit it in the guitar sauna, but that's tonight's problem.
