Extremely meh. Horrible asthmatic-sounding thing.

Sounds like they nailed the tone of the vintage 60’s ones they’re trying to imitate. They were often really boxy sounding amps - mostly due to the speakers but also some real head-scratchers in the circuit designs.

I quite like things that aren't perfect, so I'm going to go against the grain, and say "yeap, I totally would".

(after they have been heavily discounted...)

I think we would all agree that PCB mounted valve sockets are one of the worst possible design flaws, I have them in my AC10 and it scares the shit out of when I've changed toobs before

It's Brad though. I have a hard time taking him seriously myself. He's like the Glenn Fricker of the amp world.

That video is total bs. If pcbs and pcb-mounted valve sockets are such a problem, why has mesa boogie (and Fender) been using this design in their amps for decades? And people pay good money for them!

I don’t think board-mounted sockets are a good idea for boutique amps, but there’s nothing wrong with them in mass-produced stuff

Economies of scale ;-)

He makes some reasonable observations but he also bullshits quite a bit for the attention. PCB mounted pre-amp sockets are ok if they are high quality and mounted on a decently thick fibreglass board. That build looks fairly typical of Mesa and will probably hold up pretty well. Lot of $$$ though for what they are.
