My word, I just realised how much I love/hate chorus

Post by TmcB »

It really is the worst of effects.
It just screams cheese at me.
However, I tend to LOVE it on delay.

I've got one of those old 808 series Ibanez CS-505 chorus pedals and every now and again I am sorely tempted to let it pass on. However, it is AMAZING in stereo.

So what the hell do I do?
Do I sell the thing that I never use? Or do I hang on to it in case I get a chorus craving or it suddenly comes into vogue on TGP (sell for many $ to impressionable americans :D )?

I agree...in fact I'm about to remove it from my live pedal board...but there are times when say recording, only a choris will do....

Chorus is the love-to-hate effect. I have this one song with the band I found just sounded empty and a little boring. The guitars are playing to rather similar, opposing picking parts and mine sounded so much better when i added chorus instead of delay. It's like a loaded gun thought; dangerous in the wrong hands.

I guess it all depends on the music you're making. I enjoy chorus for the (very few) times I end up playing rhythm - it covers my crappy playing.

Chorus is great clean or dirty, but only in very small subtle doses.

I've been through four or five chorus pedals in my time, never settled on one for very long. I don't particularly like the chorus sound itself, but I like to subtly fatten it up with a bit of "3D" sound and glitz. I've heard some nice sounding modulated delay effects, that might be my next move. I'm enjoying the moudulated reverb on the digitech RV-7, I have that on most of the time.

I quite like the Eventide Delay chorus sound....it's good enough live for me to ditch the awesome Daphon of Doom...

yes!! I have a 45 Phaze made by Mr. Bro its so like a filter instead of cheesy chorus but then again it was a choice between flange, chorus and phase. i had to have a little modulation but for me it stops with the 45 phaze

Rate way down @ 7 oclock & depth around 12oclock on my ce2 gives a nice semi flange / phaser flavour.
Fills out 7th Chords and helps if your intonation isnt 100% !

Sometimes I just plug the warwick into my chorus pedal and can't stop slapping till bedtime, tonal bliss!

when I wish to revisit the glory days of modern music a chorus pedal is essential with either of my Fretless Basses.
If I'm in a "New York Minute" playing through the best of Talk Talk or even being a "Smooth Operator" you know I will be stomping on the Boss CEB-3.

I hated Chorus until I got an Ibanez CS-9.

Although the Chorus on an Alesis Quadreverb is to die for.

What are they ? Googling it turns up a lot of random results, some of them about Star Trek...
