The 2035 takes higher spl so more suited to close guitar cab miking has a 10db pad for when signal is too much and a 80hz filter
also includes the spider ( shock mount )
has an extended low frequency response
Thanks chaps, very helpful. So it sounds like the 2035 would be good for plugging into my new TC Electronic recording interface. Doing any special deals on those Simon? (especially as my office is just around the corner from you).

Figure 8 + Cardioid = M/S Stereo which, to quote Hot Grits, is sexy trouser time for stereo recording. An AT2050 and AT2020 would make a great, cheap M/S rig if you're into that sort of thing (which I am).

Can you explain that in layman's terms, Ben? I didn't really understand that

Nope, just three channels on a mixer will do it.
M/S (Mid/Side) is a stereo recording technique that allows you to vary the stereo width post recording and generally results in good mono-compatibility. A crdioid pattern mic is used for the mid and figure-8 is used for the side. Mid + Side = Left, Mid - Side = Right. If you don't have a Mid-Side matrix you can simple feed the side signal into two channels of a mixer, phase reverse one and pan them hard left and hard right. The mid signal is panned to centre. Lowering the mid signal relative to the side signal widens the stereo image and vice-versa. Another cool trick is to widen the image (reduce the mid level) and EQ some of the low frequency out of the side signal(s). This will go a long way to maintaining the L/R phase correlation while still allowing a wide stereo image.
It can be cool for recording drums or for capturing a performance in a really nice sounding space. Also very useful for recording ambiences for film and TV.
Simon has a great sales technique - "the computer says I have several 2035s in stock but I can't find them anywhere... how about this 2050 I have in my hands right here?".
He didn't even have to tell me I was getting a greater saving.

Cheers Simon.
Nice to meet you and put a face ( and a body ) to the name
