So ebony will become more common on guitars? I thought that was rarer and even more sought after. I hope they start using the ebony that has brown and red streaks in it so that doesn't get wasted.

Gibson's not averse to using a bit of laminated stuff on their fretboards so I think we can look forward to plywood.

I've been firing a few emails around. I'm currently working in Hong Kong and have 2 of my guitars with me.
The general consensus seems to be no issue to fly home with them which is a relief.

I feel like in a month or two this will be resolved - either by the industry exempting guitars (small quantity of wood) or through major retailers/distributors getting CITES compliant licences.

I ordered 5 rosewood fretboards after seeing this (late December). They arrived safely....so technically got missed by customs as they came through after jan 2.
anyone want one ...$250 each...

I'm sure we can handle a little richlite on our guitars to help slow down deforestation. Things don't last forever.

I doubt anyone is going to stop people taking personal guitars with them overseas, imagine how many touring artists this would affect!

As I understand it, there's an automatic 1 guitar exemption, if it's carried with you (rosewood content has to be under 10kg). Touring bands will have to get 3 year rosewood passports for their list of instruments.
Manufacturers/sellers can ship pre-2/1/17 rosewood if it is certified.

However we need to stop to ship the guitar which has Rosewood material for a while.
Unfortunately, we have had to place a temporary stop on selling items that has any parts made of either Rosewood, Bubinga, African Blackwood, and/or Cocobolo, to customers outside of Japan. This is because of new directives from CITES. We are currently working on obtaining an export license but it will take some time. In the meanwhile, we can unfortunately not help you with your inquiry.
