Man I'm so tempted to sell my setup for an Axe fx. The demos sound insane and I was a very happy POD user until I bought a tube amp my mistake for it :?

Anyone else had much experience with these bad boys? Or anyone thinking of selling one MUAHAHA

I think a member here has one (Fler?). Might be an idea to PM him, or try and find the thread that was around not too long ago where someone was asking about one of these.

i got one too and sold up my mesa mark IV, bogner uberkab, and g system and its just as good if not better. it cops a realllllly close mark IV amongst several other tones.

heres a clip i posted on this forum 2 days after i got it. its a diezel amp with a mesa cab impulse with a sm57 mixed in with a royer r121. http://soundcloud.com/zorran/zorran-axe-fx-metal-clip

so since then, ive made my own mark IV tones, fender blackface for cleans, bogner shiva for in between, vox ac30 for a cleaner in between. with stompboxes for each patch etc. so yeah.. very happy with it for my tones.

apart from my tones it can do a few others too.

heres a clip made a few days ago.. trying to emulate a tool 10,000 days tone. http://soundcloud.com/zorran/z-axe-fx-tool-clip

i think its an amazing piece of gear.. so does steve vai. i think he said it best when he said ''everyday is christmas''. i find it continually inspiring and awesome tonewise and just as responsive as any amp ive played.

would be happy for anyone interested to come try it out.

How do you use it? Through a power amp to a cab? Straight into the PA?

I think the Ultra is in the region of $4-5k US.

Or maybe it's 4-5k NZ. I forget. Been a while since I looked into it.

Do you or have you used it through a power amp and cab? What do you recommend for this?

i havent personally, because to me the power amp emulation and mic emulation are so good, i wouldnt subject myself to the inaccuracies of micing on stage with it.

youll find that even if you have a macdaddy tone, most soundguys will walk up on stage, do an approximate mic placement and thats it. then your mic might be knocked around a touch etc. in a recording situation it takes around half an hour to 45 mins to get the mic placement right for good tone. and then live, most guys ive seen struggle to get a good clear tone.

so personally i wouldnt go poweramp and cab route, but if i was to, id probably go a solid state power amp like a carvin or qsc, into a bogner or mesa cab.

but yes, the axe fx has that nailed, so personally i would go for a powered monitor route personally. its just that good. cant blame anyone for doubting though. anything ive tried in the past like pods, guitar rig etc hasnt even come close to a real amp. but the technology is finally here.

That's hugely interesting, and the pricing actually isn't horrendous. Hell, I could sell one of my mesa mark iv's (head), my mesa subway rocket and my tc electronics g-system and I'd be there plus have enough $ to buy a power amp.

... anyone interested in a mesa mark iv head, a mesa subway rocket and/or a tc electronics g system ...
