Guitar Tool Kit

Hi all,

it occurred to me today that it might be useful to own a guitar tool kit that lives in a case and therefore is at every gig. Currently I have a pair of pliers and a Phillips screwdriver, but was thinking about organising a more complete set.

are there any decent small tool kits that are recommended? Or is it better just to buy individual bits and some kind of case to organise them in?
I see Ernie Ball make a tool kit but at $90 it seems a bit OTT

Have a look at the Fender Custom Shop John Cruz toolkit. Then copy the contents at Mitre 10 for half the price.

I basically just made one up from all the spare/mismatched stuff I had at home. I guess it depends how prepared you want to be. If anything stops working it's easy enough to swap for a backup and fix the thing later. But like you I like to be prepared, so I just have a backup/alternative solution for all my gear, as well as a multitool, torch, nail clippers, patch leads, cable ties, Bungy cords, tape, pen/paper, sharpie, allen keys, ear plugs, cleaning cloth, capo, strap, batteries, IEC plugs, adapter's, strings, etc... It's been handy having that stuff.

I realise these are more backups than tools. Although it's hard to see why you'd need much more than a multitool, a few screwdrivers, pliers, and your usual setup gear. I heard of someone packing a soldering iron once - that's dedication, ha!

That's just off the top of my head.

I used to have a butane soldering iron which would be perfect for a toolkit, but way overkill LOL

duct tape
spare leads; power, extension, guitar, pedalboard and speaker.
multibox
soft polishing cloth
picks
12AX7
2x 6L6
tuner
9v battery
clip on LED light
blutak
notepad and pen
capo and for reasons I cannot explain, a red plastic kazoo.

All in a grab & go plastic toolbox.
To date, the only things that have never been used are the valves and the kazoo.

You may be over-thinking a little bit there Molly.


On second thoughts...the thing that used to break most when I played in a heavily-gigging band was the bus. You have that covered
