I just noticed something I could not recall from the first time I had this amp. It needs the volume at a certain level for the gain to overdrive. I think I said that he right way. It feels like the preamp does different things depending on the power amp. I hope that makes sense. Does yours do the same thing?
I set the volume wide open and forget it. Treble and bass define the tone and eq, gain determines how much dirt appears when I dig in. My playing style is fingerpicking so it's set up that a light touch plays clean and things get dirtier as I get more heavy handed.

With a 12', you're going to upset the neighbours but give it a try, the amp seems to make sense used like that.

Then again, your guitar has a volume........ :D

I made the mistake of looking at alnico speaker prices. Yikes!!
My thought, 'I should put a 10" Blue in here..." proved very fleeting!
They did well with the stock cheap celestions, I've heard a blue in an AC10 and it sounded shit to my ears  the stock speaker is just perfectly matched for the tones I want!

Don't know if I'd call the stock speaker 'cheap'...

Maybe it’s the power amp tubes doing their sizzle? I would be surprised if they’re class A in this setup?
