Is there a power supply with 16v AC outputs?

Post by Reg18 »

In a recent pedalboard shuffle I’ve ended up with a Seymour Duncan Classic tube pedal on my board, which means I now need a multi box as I have 3 power supply’s to run my pedalboard, a Truetone CS7 for most of the pedals, seperate HX Stomp power supply as it overloads the CS7 without it and now a seperate wall wart to run the SD tube pedal. I know the Truetone CS12 has a 9vAC outlet but I’d need 16vAC, does anything like this exist?

Have you checked manufacturers specs to see if it will accept 18v? I bought a CS12 last week and realised that I didn't have enough 9v outlets. I checked specs for my Timmy OD and Paul C had designed them to take up to 18v, but doesn't advertise the fact.

I think my compressor accepts 18v but unsure on the others. I’d guess the Seymour Duncan would accept 18v but it’s the AC compared to DC which is hard to find.

In the past I've used the AC out on my power supplies to run a double adapter with two wall warts on it, fits nicely under the board with appropriate use of zip ties etc... I used one of these: https://www.jaycar.co.nz/iec-c14-male-t ... m/p/PS4100

Think it was a 90s/2000s model, haven’t seen one in a while but this came up cheap recently on TM. I remember looking at guitar rig run downs of the band The Living End using one live so always wanted to try one. It sounds pretty decent actually, hence might be worth the hassle of adding to the board.

Sounds pretty good on youtube, and has some interesting tubes in it!

I’m having similar issues with a Victory V4 Countess, although at least it’s still DC, it’s just the ma I’m lacking from the pedal power supply…

I believe that the tube are soldering directly to the PCB which makes them more troublesome to replace if need be.

Yeah I watched a video on how to replace the tubes, each wire needs to be desoldered off the board carefully. Not impossible but not a quick job. Hopefully mine isn’t near replacement but time will tell.

This one has 16v AC with enough milliamps to run that pedal

Do you know what voltage the tubes are running at Reg?

That’s a good thing right? As apposed to some other tube overdrives that run at 9v DC and aren’t really doing much?
After playing it this morning live I’m pretty happy with it actually.
Has a more natural top end to it. It might stay for now.

Yes. In my opinion, it is nothing but a marketing tube useless it is running at amp-like levels in terms of the voltage.
