Identifying Pickups

Post by JohnG »

Hi There,

Just wondering if there is an easy way to identify the pickups in my Les Paul without taking them out. I don't know the history of the guitar, and they sure don't look like originals. They are much hotter than my other LP Standard.
Not sure if this picture makes them look like a thousand other bridge pickups!

Thanks.

They could be anything. You will need to take them out to truly identify them, but it's not hard. Just take the strings off of the guitar and remove mounting screws that are in the mounting ring, you can then turn the pickup over and see if there is a brand and model number. If there is no brand, they would be likely to be a cheaper pair. I'm not sure if all brands have their name underneath the pickup, but that's normally where it is in my experience.

I don't know as much about pickups as the other guys on here, so I think it's best you get a few opinions...

:)
