Time to freak out the strat boys
OK. I know this is going to annoy a few pursuits but stick with me.
Picked up a old squire strat copy from a local car boot sale.
Basically it is dead but the body and neck is good.
everything going to be rebuilt.
Bridge is missing spring and is rusted, pickguard is cracked and everything else was given to me in plastic bag. Lets say only a idiot would buy this thing.
But for me, this idiot just got him a $10 project. It worth a punt.
Was going the standard SSH pickup options till I found a little suprise
Anyway in the bags of junk I found a mini humbucker that seems to be in good condition. From what I can see it is a neck from a epiphone but no idea what model.
Anyway going to see whay I can do with this but have no idea what other pickups will work with this.
So let your imagination go wild guys, this is going to be a bit of a Frankenstein so no ideas will laughed at but maybe stolen.
So far I come up with getting another 2 mini humbuckers and standard five way switching ala strat.
Getting full sized humbucker for the bridge and going like a tele switching
Or go totally weird and get two singles for top and middle and put the mini in the bridge.
Any chuck up your ideas

Completely rout out the swimming pool and fill it with pickups.
Have it wired so there is an option for "all on".

Sounds like a great project.
I have two mini humbuckers (GFS mini crunchies) worthy of such a project.

Humbucker in the bridge, single coil in the neck, cut a big chunk out of the pick guard and paint it red with some black and white stripes badly masked and painted.
Get the feeling that may have been done before though...

Would be great but I'm over in oz so postage could be a bit of a buggerStrummersOfThunder wrote:Sounds like a great project.

Interesting, will have to look into that one. Sounds like a Job for a push pull knob maybeSingle coil wrote:Completely rout out the swimming pool and fill it with pickups.

Re: Time to freak out the strat boys
My vote goes to 3 mini Humbuckers. Nothing exceeds like excess!
Have always wanted to hear a Strat with Lipsticks too.
BTW, you will probably find the mini HB has a different string spacing to the Strat.

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Re: Time to freak out the strat boys
If you get a rail minihumbucker (firebird-style) I'm pretty sure the string spacing becomes irrelevant. If you get a mini with the visible screw poles then the string spacing would be more of an issue.
Too many guitars, not enough talent.

I think you can still get them, Strat size, from Seymour Duncan.slowfingers wrote:Have always wanted to hear a Strat with Lipsticks too.

Only way you'll freak me with a strat is to play something really impressive.

Re: Time to freak out the strat boys
I'd put the mini HB in the neck for creamy/bluesy neck tones with a bit more bite, a full HB in the bridge for rockin' out, and a SC in the middle with a 5-way switch so you can blend it in with the HB's and get the traditional strat 'quack' tones in positions 2 and 4. Of course the bridge HB would need to be split-coiled for that to work effectively.
Then I'd paint it surf green.

Nothing to see here.

Re: Time to freak out the strat boys
I played a bastardised Squire strat (Japanese) in a gutar shop in the UK a long time ago, it had a neck and bridge P90. It played and sounded so great I took it straight to the counter to buy. The guy at the counter then informed me it was his personal guitar and not for sale, it was just in for a set-up. I was gutted.
