Excuse my ignorance, but do you need two 9v batteries to run 18v pups?

Yup :D EMGs are capable of running at up to 27volts. 9 volts is what most people use, 18volts is a huge improvement in tone (Emg? "what tone?!?" I hear you say... ) however the difference between 18volts and 27volts is very little. Imagine trying to fit 3x9volt batteries in the back of a guitar :| 2 is hard enough in some guitars.

Must be a bit of a pain having to worry about them going flat in the middle of a gig much less mid-song

they deteriorate gradually rather than die abrubtly.....i have a bad habit of leaving the jack plugged in which is another of many reasons why i don't dig actives.

My batters have run out once at band practice (out of about 100 band practices involving said guitar) and I don't have to replace the batteries that often. Usually I replace them before they need it, just as a safety measure and I always carry spare batteries. However If It hit me mid set I'd be pretty annoyed.. I really wouldn't mind some passives to be honest

So I have to ask the n00b question: if your battery goes flat, to the pups just flat out stop working, or do they just give a really quiet/crap sound?

Mine go really really quiet, there is a very quiet signal but that's all. EMGs have an onboard preamp which requires the 9Volt power, without the power you don't get much signal at all

Ive never had a battery die on me, if you don't notice the deterioration in sound before it dies you probably wasted your money getting high end pups

on first glance, I read that as RSA prestige, which certainly drops the coolness factor
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Which reminds me... I ordered a set of Blackouts for a customer's gat this week. and they were only $299 for the pair, not the $225 each or whatever it was I said before. That puts them even cheaper than passive SDs and a hell of a way less than a $450+ EMG set! Suckers.

hahah all good. with the style of music we play, I need active pickups.

Plus I'm running it through a Krank rev head. Our other guitarist just got a caparison dillenger II. our coolness factor is through the roof 8) haha
